What is internal cleansing? Internal cleansing otherwise referred to, as colonic hydrotherapy or colonics, is a procedure used to flush out years of toxic waste buildup in the colon.

How does it work? Highly filtered water is slowly and gently infused through a small, sterile, disposable tube inserted a couple inches into the rectum. The client lies in a reclined position for 30 to 40 minutes and relaxes while pounds of waste are flushed out through an elimination hose into an enclosed system and out a waste line. There is no smell, no mess and no pain. Some people even nap during a session.

Why get colonics? The purpose is to literally loosen and wash away toxins, parasites, fungus, bacteria and sometimes pounds of old fecal matter from the colon. Once the colon has been cleansed, the body can better maintain proper weight by correcting the metabolism and absorbing nutrients more efficiently. Every organ functions better thus increasing age longevity, creating balance and regulating the entire system.

Who should get colonics? Anyone who seeks to restore health and increase energy. Those who suffer from chronic constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, parasites, candida, fibromyalgia, headaches, insomnia, low back pain, chronic fatigue, gas and bloating, bad breath and body odor, hepatitis, and acne to name a few. Also, diabetics, paraplegics, and most importantly, people with a family history of colon or rectal cancer and polyps can benefit greatly too.

Why not just take laxatives? Laxatives completely purge the body of water. It is not a gentle cleansing action and will lead to constipation. Laxatives severely weaken the colon causing more irregularity along with a host of gastrointestinal problems. The colon needs water to function properly and stay regular. Colonics help to strengthen the colon by loosening hardened waste, and eliminating parasites and toxins.

What are the contraindications? Colonics are not indicated for those with diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, heart or kidney disease, severe hemorrhoids and tumors in the rectum or colon. Always check with your doctor if you have had any of these contraindications.
Are there any side effects? As the body goes through the healing process slight headaches may occur as a result of toxins releasing. With some people a slight weakness or feeling lightheaded may occur. This passes immediately with a few sips of water or Gatorade. It’s always a good idea to drink plenty of water when cleansing anyway.

How many colonics should I get? There is no set rule. Each individual is different so it depends on your goal and what level of health you want to achieve. Your therapist will help you assess the level of your intestinal health upon your initial visit. Your diet and eating habits are an integral part of your progress. It is helpful to modify your diet temporarily.

Is there any special diet? The body cleanses more efficiently when lighter foods are eaten so it is suggested to avoid white flour and sugar. Depending upon the individual, most only need to slightly modify their diet while they are cleansing and can resume their normal, healthy diet after they have achieved their specific goal.

Is it safe? Yes. However, you should always check with your healthcare provider before using colonic hydrotherapy if you have any symptoms that may be related to the above contraindications. It’s also important so see a Hydrotherapist who uses only sterile, disposable equipment and who is caring and ensures your wellbeing at all times.

Can you become dependent on colonics? No. Colonics strengthen and tone the colon like any other muscle. By flushing out waste matter, the colon can absorb more nutrients and eliminate waste more efficiently.

Can colonics cure colitis? There is no one cure for anything. Colonics along with improving your diet and supplementing it with specific herbs geared towards healing the inner lining of the colon can help heal colitis. There are many variables however such as how long you’ve had colitis and the specific type you have. Some types of colitis are caused by bacteria and require antibiotics. Ulcerative colitis is contraindicated for the use of Colonics and must be avoided. Check with your doctor to determine the best treatment for you.

If nothing comes out during my colonic does that mean I’m clean? No quite the contrary. If you’re having a hard time expelling anything during a colonic that usually indicates there is an overload of hardened plaque that may require several colonics before the water can wash it away. Even very, very thin people have toxic waste build up in their colons.
